As the Dems bashed each other on the debate stage Thursday night, President Trump joined in — mocking the primary candidates, environmentalists and even energy-efficient light bulbs.
In a speech before the House Republicans’ annual retreat in Baltimore, Trump took a shot at “Crazy Bernie” Sanders for wanting “Medicare For All,” bashed “Sleepy Joe” Biden, and joked of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, “I hit Pocahontas way too early.”
“I thought she was gone,” Trump cracked of Warren. “She’s emerged from the ashes and now it looks like she could beat Sleepy Joe.”
He then poked fun of the 5-foot-8 South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who polls show beating Trump by 2 points in Texas.
“You think Buttigieg’s winning Texas?” Trump asked the crowd. Then Trump raised his hand chest high and quipped, ‘I’ve had him up to here.”
Trump also promised to follow his 2017 $1.5 trillion tax cut with another, aimed at middle-income earners, that “is going to be very, very inspirational.”
Outside on the streets, protesters were not ready to forget Trump had recently condemned the city as a “rat and rodent infested mess.”
But inside, Trump was greeted with chants of “four more years,” and a standing ovation when he promised to protect their right to keep and bear arms.
Some of his biggest laugh lines came at the expense of environmentalists, particularly Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whose Green New Deal he termed, “the greatest line of crap anybody’s ever had in the history of politics.”
Of energy-efficient light bulbs, Trump complained, “The light’s no good. I always look orange! And so do you.”
