‘He headbutted me!’: Steelers fans ignite melee after one inexplicably slams his head into the other’s face

- For all of the excitement, some fans in the area never took their eye off the game. At one point during the fracas a fan can be heard yelling, ‘Come on defense!’
As if it wasn’t bad enough that their team blew a 23-7 lead in Sunday’s loss to the visiting Los Angeles Chargers, two Pittsburgh Steelers fans exacerbated the situation by igniting a melee that began when one headbutted the other.
It’s unclear when fight took place, but it did go down in the lower bowl of Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field.
The fan-recorded video shows the two men, who were seated next to each other, standing up and arguing face to face. Ultimately the man in the black Steelers sweatshirt begins shouting in the face of the man wearing a replica jersey of retired Steelers safety Troy Polamalu.

Inexplicably, the man in the sweatshirt is seen headbutting the man in the jersey, who then fell to the ground.
A woman wearing a Steelers jersey then began slapping the headbutter, who casually slapped away her arm.
Through the crowd, the man in the Polamalu jersey can be seen rising to his feet and attacking his assailant.

At that point, a melee ensued, encompassing the better part of two rows of fans, all of whom become tangled. Some more punches were thrown before the pile ultimately fell back upon the man in the Polamalu jersey, who had seemingly recovered from being headbutted.

Eventually security picks apart the pile and separates the combatants.

As for the game, rookie Michael Badgley kicked a 29-yard field goal with no time left to give the Chargers a 33-30 win.
At the game’s end, Badgley missed a 39-yard attempt and had a 34-yard try blocked, both with no time left, but the Steelers were offside both times.
The Chargers (9-3) erased a 16-point halftime deficit to win for the eighth time in nine games. The Steelers (7-4-1) have lost two straight following a six-game win streak.
Philip Rivers threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns for the Chargers. Ben Roethlisberger passed for 281 yards for Pittsburgh, with scoring passes to Antonio Brown (10 catches, 154 yards) and Jaylen Samuels, and James Conner ran for two touchdowns before leaving in the fourth quarter with a lower right leg injury.
