City sheriffs raided an underground gym in Manhattan Wednesday night, sending about 50 gym rats — many of whom were not wearing masks — scurrying for the back door.
Deputies responded to the gym, IG Fitness on 14th Street and Second Avenue in the East Village, at about 7:30 p.m. and finding dozens of workout buffs, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“Many were not wearing masks and not practicing social distancing,” Sheriff Joseph Fucito said in an email.
The gym goers left the speakeasy fitness center without incident, but the owner, Milos Stevanovic, was cited for violating the Mayor’s Emergency Order, Fucito added.
A source added that the center had been cited previously for operating during lockdown and they were trying to run a “member’s only” gym club.
Stevanovic could not be reached for comment.
