NYPD officer rescues hawk trapped in Penn Station

A hawk-eyed NYDP officer played Santa Claws on Sunday night to help rescue a bird who got trapped in Penn Station, MTA and police officials said.

MTA employees spotted a red-shoulder hawk chasing a pigeon into an overwise-empty transit booth just before 10 p.m. on Sunday night and called the cops for assistance when the raptor wouldn’t leave.

Detective Joseph Bucchignano showed up and found the bird still trapped. He pulled the hawk out of the booth, caged it, and brought it to the West Side Highway, where he released it over the Hudson River.

There was no word on what happened to the pigeon.
