A MICHIGAN man has been charged with child abuse after the death of the infant’s twin brother, reports said.
James Gibson, 34, has been charged with first-degree child abuse by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy for the abuse of 13-month-old Zion Reed, WJBK reported.
Gibson, who is not the father of the children, has not yet been charged for the death of Zyaire Reed because of an ongoing homicide investigation, the outlet reported.
“There is simply not much that prepares you for the allegations in this case for 13-month-old twin Zion Reed," Worthy said.
She continued: "It is important to note that the investigation into the homicide of Zaire Reed is not completed, and we are waiting to receive and review other work that we have requested in this case."
Officers with the Ecorse Police Department responded to a 911 call on July 28 about an unresponsive child at the apartment where Gibson lived with the mother of the children, Lisa Marie Reed.
Cops could not revive Zyaire and found that Zion also showed signs of abuse – which the boy is reportedly still recovering from, the News-Herald reported.
The children reportedly both suffered severe injuries to the lips, ears and broken blood vessels in the eyes, the outlet reported.
Zion also reportedly suffered a broken left femur.
Gibson was described by family members of the children as having put on a show — even wearing matching shirts with the babies for a birthday celebration, the outlet reported.
Lisa Marie Reed was charged with first-degree child abuse on July 30 and was remanded to jail.
