A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car drove at a group of people in Essex last night.

Cops say the horror took place in the Festival Leisure Park car park in Basildon, Essex.

Essex Police were rushed to the scene at around 4.30am this morning.

Officers arrived and found the driver of a car had fled the scene.

A spokesman for the police said: "Following a short search of the area, which was supported by the Essex Police Dog Unit, a 25-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

"He remains in custody for questioning.

"One man was taken to hospital for treatment to a serious leg injury."

Photos taken at the scene this morning show a car lodged in a hedge, with forensic police investigating.

Cops are now urging anyone with footage from dash cam or mobile phones to come forward.
