Slow-moving water dripping over arches turned into large icicles, helping to create the illusion that the Falls had frozen too

Speaking about the drastic difference to what it looks like in summer, Carole K captioned a series of pictures: ‘18.5 years after my first visit. That first day was probably about 20*C, yesterday felt like 35*C.’

One aerial shot showing the collection of three waterfalls on the Niagara River, reveals how it has been affected in way that might evoke memories of something out of Disney movie Frozen.

Not only was water dripping over arches turned into large icicles but one image showed the entire stretch of water under one bridge featuring a coat of ice.

The Niagara River was covered in white but the water was still moving underneath the frozen surface

Amateur photographers captured how street lights and railings in the area were covered in ice this week

Plants and trees around the Falls were blanketed in the white stuff as shown in social media posts this week

The white fluffy stuff could also be seen on trees and plants surrounding the American, Horseshoe and Bridal Veil Falls as well as railings and street lights.

Niagara Falls’ winter look was caused by the large cloud of mist that hangs over it freezing due to its slow movement.

The fast-moving waterfalls were still going however and underneath the guise of the stopped river, the water was still in action.

The icy covering was created by the slow-moving mist that lingers over the Falls, freezing and falling onto the water
