WASHINGTON – George W. Bush recreated a viral moment with Michelle Obama, slipping her what was likely a cough drop at his father’s funeral Wednesday.
Bush can be seen digging an item out of his left pocket as he approached the front pew of the National Cathedral, where President Trump and first lady Melania Trump, as well as three former Democratic presidents and first ladies, were seated.
Bush, who gave an emotional eulogy for his father, President George H.W. Bush, shook hands with the Trumps and then President Obama. He then pushed the item into Michelle Obama’s hand, before going around the front of the pew to say hello to the Clintons and Carters.
Bush originally passed a cough drop to Michelle Obama when they were seated next to each other at the September funeral for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
She saw that he was handing one to former first lady Laura Bush and asked for one as well.
“And I will say they were old cough drops,” Michelle Obama told USA Today at the time, explaining they came from a White House box. “And I was like, ‘How long have you had these?’ They said, ‘A long time. We got a lot of these.’”
