A dog was found in the sewer with its eyes glued shut in an apparent attempt to stop her following her owner to safety.
Footage of the downtrodden hound shows her in a bath having sewer grime cleaned from her fur and glue from her eyes.
The poor animal was abandoned in Barrancabermeja, Colombia but was discovered by a kind stranger named Carlos.
He took the bitch to a vets where professionals confirmed that her eyes had been glued shut.
The vets told Carlos that the dog had given itself an eye infection by attempting to remove the glue using her paws.
Zoraida Santiago, an animal activist, said that it took three days to remove the glue, because the sensitive area required precision treatment.
“The vet realised that its eyes had been glued and while trying to get rid of it, she caused an infection," he said.
Meanwhile, the abandoned pooch is currently taking antibiotics and undergoing tests to establish whether it is suffering from any other conditions.
It is believed that the dog will need three or four months to fully recover from the ordeal.
Fortunately for the pooch, Carlos has decided to adopt it when the animal is fit enough to come home with him.
It is currently unknown who abandoned the dog and whether the authorities are looking into the incident.
