This is the adorable moment a daring Australian Shepherd dog soars through the air with its owner in a powered hang glider.

Sky the dog is seen being strapped into a Revolt trike at an airport in Tampa, Florida, by its owner.

Footage then shows brave Sky sitting still in the passenger seat while its owner hops in the front before powering up the hang glider.

After running along the ground for a few hundred feet the trike takes off and starts to sail through the air.

The trike then slowly descends before gently coming back down to the tarmac.

Footage filmed by Amy Mednick, the wife of Larry Mednick who designs and sells powered hang gliders, shows Sky’s fur blowing in the wind during flight.

Mr Mednick started building powered hang gliders in the early 2000s with his friend Abid Farrouqi and the pair have been selling them and running a flight school ever since.

There has been a rise in flying dogs over the past few years as passionate hang gliding enthusiasts have been keen to see whether their pets enjoy the sport as much as they do.

The world’s first hang gliding dog, Curtis, reportedly took flight in the 70s in Torrey Pines, California, with his owner, Burke Ewing.
