Young couple die in ‘murder-suicide’ before police lead unharmed two-year-old boy from their home in leafy outskirts of Staffordshire market town

A toddler has been rescued from a suspected murder-suicide.
The bodies of a 32-year-old man and a woman, 23, were discovered by emergency services who were called to Henhurst Hill, in Burton-upon-Trent, yesterday evening.
A two-year-old child was found safe in the house and was today being cared for by relatives.
Police said a man and a woman were found unresponsive inside the property shortly after 11pm last night.

Witnesses today told of their shock at the discovery.
One said: ‘I wasn’t sure what had happened as the fire service were there, I thought it was a house fire. I then saw a toddler being taken away.’
Brian Carvell, who was walking his dog past the scene, added: ‘ I’ve lived in this community about 30 years and don’t ever remember anything as serious as this happening in Henhurst Hill.
‘It’s really sad news for the community, but until we know exactly what’s happened it’s difficult. I certainly don’t ever remember anything like this happening up here before.’
Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the hazardous area response team were sent to the scene.
A second man was also discharged by medics after being assessed at the house.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: ‘At 23.05 on Wednesday, all three emergency services attended a domestic house in Henhurst Hill, Burton upon Trent, following a report of two persons having been found unresponsive inside the property.
‘Due to information provided at the time of the first report an assessment of the location was carried out by members of the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service to ensure the property was safe to enter by the other emergency services.
‘It was quickly established that there was no risk to the public or emergency service staff.
‘Following the discovery of a deceased male and female in the property, Staffordshire Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.’

A spokesman from the ambulance service said: ‘West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to reports of an incident at a property in Henhurst Hill in Burton on Trent at just after 11.00pm last night.
‘Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the hazardous area response team were sent to the scene.
‘Sadly, ambulance crews confirmed a man and a woman dead at the scene. A second man and a young child were discharged after assessment.’
Staffordshire Police said today in a statement: ‘Detectives are continuing to investigate this morning following the discovery of two bodies at a property in Burton.
‘The bodies of a 32-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were discovered at the address.
‘A 2-year-old child was found unharmed at the property.
‘The deaths are being treated as unexplained at this time and post mortems will take place in due course. Formal identification has not yet taken place.
‘A cordon is in place as forensic enquiries continue and detectives work to establish the circumstances around the deaths.’
