Debonair and sophisticated, James Bond was once seen as an upper-class gentleman spy.

But a new study claims that the double agent is now ‘less posh’ than his creator Ian Fleming intended.

Dr Alex Baratta, from the University of Manchester, analysed details in 007 films relating to class and concluded that the famous spy should now be considered to be middle class.

Daniel Craig as James Bond

He noted that Aston Martin-lover Bond when played by latest 007 actor Daniel Craig has even been seen driving a Ford Mondeo and drinking Heineken (right) rather than a shaken-not-stirred vodka martini.

Dr Baratta, whose study was published in the International Journal of James Bond Studies, said: ‘James Bond is not one of the elite, he is not overly posh, although he is not working class.’

Craig stepped down from the role after 2021’s No Time To Die. Happy Valley’s James Norton and Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson are both being tipped to replace him.
