The fourth season of You only came to a close on Netflix earlier this month as Joe Goldberg’s (played by Penn Badgley) web of lies, murder and deceit worked perfectly for him to flee London and start again in New York. Going forward, he has partner Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) by his side, teeing up a tantalising fifth run which, in bittersweet news, will be the final chapter in the story.

Season five will not only be Joe’s swan song but it also comes with some big changes behind the scenes.

Sera Gamble, who’s been the show’s showrunner for all four seasons so far, is stepping down from her role.

Instead, You season five will be helmed by Michael Foley and Justin W Lo who’ve both previously worked on the show as executive producers.

Gamble will stay on as an executive producer but Deadline reports she’s decided to focus on other projects.

Addressing the decision to step away from Joe’s storyline for the final season, Gamble has issued a statement.

It reads, via Deadline: “Making the show alongside our writers, producers, directors, cast and crew has been an honour and ridiculously fun

“I feel lucky to have worked with an artist as gifted and thoughtful as Penn Badgley. I’m proud of what we’ve all accomplished and feel privileged to pass the torch.”

She signed off: “I’m excited to watch and support the You team as they bring Joe Goldberg’s journey to its delightfully twisted conclusion.”
