His immigration documents only allowed him to stay for the duration of the ITV series.
Show bosses are now hastily trying to negotiate a new visa which will allow him to return to perform on the upcoming tour and begin recording. He has landed a record deal and his winners’ single The Power Of Love, featuring James Arthur, is powering up the charts.
In an exclusive interview Dalton revealed: “I need to get a new visa. I will have to leave the UK for a bit as you’re not allowed to just stay for ever.
“Hopefully my visa will be sorted out quickly.”
It is the first time a winner of the contest has had to leave the country straight after a victory, which is a crucial career moment. But Dalton remains optimistic immigration chiefs will allow him back.
He added: “I had a visa that allowed me to compete in the show, so I’d be surprised if the government didn’t give me one now I have won.”
The singer already has plenty of offers to collaborate, with hitmaker Nile Rodgers among those keen to work with him.
A peak of 7.5million viewers saw favourite Dalton beat Scarlett Lee and Anthony Russell in Sunday’s final.
Let’s hope his chats with border officials go as smoothly.

Lo White is a bit of all right
IF Mean Girls actor Lindsay Lohan ever played Snow White I’m not sure I’d let my kids watch.
She dressed as sexy versions of Disney princesses for Paper mag.
Her career has been far from a fairytale, with scandals that would make a wicked witch blush.
In October she was punched by a homeless mum in Moscow who she accused of child trafficking.
Talking for the first time about it, Lindsay said: “I read the situation wrong. I’ve learned from it.”
Hope she won’t be so Dopey in future.
XMAS TOTP IS A BIT OF ORA-RITA

Katie is saved by taxman
IT turns out the price is right for Katie Price – as she has just avoided bankruptcy.
The former glamour model yesterday reached an agreement with her creditors in the High Court to pay off a £22,000 tax bill in instalments.
She had been battling for months to reach a deal after she managed to blow her £40million fortune.
Katie, above, made the announcement in a teaser clip for an upcoming episode of her Red Quest series My Crazy Life.
She declared of her financial state: “It’s like everyone’s obsessed with it because they see me as this big businesswoman, made s***loads of money and as soon as the word ‘bankrupt’ hits anyone, everyone’s like ‘Oh my God’.
“But guess what? I’ve had the news today and I’m not going bankrupt.”
In October Pricey was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after being found at 2am in her damaged pink Range Rover in Woolwich, South East London.
She has more to sort out than just her finances.
Kanye believe it?
CONSIDERING her love of taking selfies, you’d expect Kim Kardashian to be the one called out for rudely using her phone.
But Kanye West was forced to apologise for a mobile misdemeanour after the cast spotted him during the opening night of The Cher Show on Broadway.
The rapper was called out on Twitter on Monday by Jarrod Spector, who plays the pop legend’s husband and singing partner Sonny Bono in the musical which charts her early life and career.
Jarrod said: “Hey @kanyewest so cool that you’re here at @TheCherShow! If you look up from your cellphone you’ll see we’re doing a show up here.
“It’s opening night. Kind of a big deal for us. Thanks so much.”
It forced the outspoken rapper, pictured outside the New York theatre with Kim, to reply: “The dynamics of Cher and Sonny’s relationship made Kim and I grab each other’s hand and sing I Got You Babe,’ please pardon my lack of etiquette. We have so much appreciation for the energy you guys put into making this masterpiece.”
He might want to be more sneaky next time he checks Twitter.
GAGA’S STEALING MY MATERIAL, GIRL
But now Madge has blasted the A Star Is Born actress for stealing one of her catchphrases.
It hasn’t gone unnoticed that while promoting the film, Gaga has repeated an anecdote about her co-star Bradley Cooper being the only person to have faith in her.
Gaga has said multiple times: “There can be 100 people in a room and 99 of them don’t believe in you, but all it takes is one and it changes your whole life.”
The Material Girl posted a clip to Instagram from one of her interviews in the 80s which shows an alarming similarity, including the numbers.
In the vid, Madge says: “If there are 100 people in a room and 99 say they liked it, I only remember the one person who didn’t.”
She then posted a selfie with the caption: “Don’t f*** with me Monday.” Meow.
GREATEST Showman star Hugh Jackman has said he would do a sequel to the smash film. Hugh, P.T. Barnum in the musical, said: “If a genuine opportunity came up where it felt right I’d get the top hat back out.”
VALENTINE’S Day doesn’t bring out the best side of MARGOT ROBBIE – she dumped a boyfriend on the loved-up night. “It was awful,” the actress recalled on The Tonight Show with JIMMY FALLON in the US. She added: “I hope to God he’s not watching this.’’ Seems things fared better for husband Tom Ackerley.
WILL FERRELL’s legendary Anchorman character Ron Burgundy will be returning to the airwaves, this time for a podcast. The Burgundy Podcast, which is set to launch on the iHeartRadio Podcast Network early next year, has already been commissioned for two seasons. It’s kind of a big deal.
ARIANA GRANDE has urged fans to be kinder to her ex-boyfriend, US comic and actor PETE DAVIDSON, after he shared a heartfelt message about being bullied following their split. The pop star said: “I care deeply about Pete and his health. I’m asking you to please be gentler with others, even on the internet.”
IT sounds like Bollywood actress PRIYANKA CHOPRA couldn’t be more pleased after tying the knot with US singer NICK JONAS last week. She told People magazine: “Every girl dreams of being a princess on her wedding day.” She added: “It was all tears. All tears.” Hopefully they were happy ones.
