Elena finally visited Tallahassee with her class, finishing off her year in sixth grade. What’s next for this future president and her family? Will there be a second season of Diary of a Future President? Will coronavirus impact production on Disney+ originals? Here’s what we know about the future of this Disney+ television show.
The season 1 finale of ‘Diary of a Future President’ premiered on Disney+
Bobby became the captain of his tennis team, Elena fought for inclusivity, and Gabi started a new relationship with her co-worker. Together, viewers went on a journey with the Cañero-Reeds, a family of Cuban-Americans living in Miami.
Primarily, this Disney+ original series follows 12-year-old Elena Cañero-Reed, as she navigates school, family, friends, and finding her “raisin.” (That’s her raisin for being.) The 10 episodes from season 1 are available on the Disney+ streaming library.
“Diary, at its heart, is an origin story,” creator Ilana Peña said during an interview with Variety. “Originally when I first came up with this idea, I wanted [to] tell a coming-of-age story about a girl growing up. In a way, I feel we see a lot of boyhood stories, and I wanted to see my own experience on-screen.”
Is ‘Diary of a Future President’ coming back for a second season?
As of March 20, the entire first season of Diary of a Future President is available on the Disney+ library. However, it’s unclear when, or if, new episodes will be released. According to Seventeen, because the show hasn’t officially been renewed yet, or at least because Disney hasn’t announced new episodes, there’s no word when they’ll start production.
Still, with the full first season available for binge-watching, fans can’t wait to see what happens to Elena, Bobby, and Gabi. Some posts to the Disney+ social media accounts featuring these characters earned a few thousand likes. Other posts raked in comments with viewers sharing their love for this series.
Have other Disney+ originals been renewed for a season 2?
There were a few Disney+ exclusive television shows that premiered at its launch date during November 2019. Two of those, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and The Mandalorian have already started production on their second season. (Diary of a Future President debuted on this library a few months later.)
Subscribers learned, thanks to the Disney+ social media account, that High School Musical: The Musical: The Series already had their first table read. However, some television shows since halted production due to the coronavirus outbreak. That includes HBO’s Euphoria, which was also slated for a 2020 release date.
So far, there’s no news regarding if the second season of Disney+ originals High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and The Mandalorian have been postponed. Presumably, more information about new episodes of Diary of a Future President will be announced in the coming months.
Until then, fans can binge-watch the first season of Diary of a Future President. To learn more about Disney+ and to subscribe, visit their website.
