Before we watched the Duggar family on Counting On, we remember when 17 Kids and Counting was TLC’s hit series that surrounded the family. The show first followed Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, two ultra-conservative and religious parents who set strict guidelines for their many children to abide by. Eventually, fans saw the 17 kids grow to 19 through the reality series — and though 19 Kids and Counting was cancelled due to the Josh Duggar sexual abuse scandal, we still get to follow the Duggars today on their new series.
The Duggar kids were just children when they first hit network television, but nowadays, many of them are all grown up with families of their own. And Jinger Duggar, a fan favorite, is stirring up controversy due to a recent Instagram post.
Jinger Duggar has always been more progressive than the rest of the family

Plenty of the Duggars have followed right in the footsteps of Michelle and Jim Bob, but Jinger was always a bit different. Though she eventually grew to appreciate her Christian fundamentalist background Nicki Swift notes she was resistant at first. And even though she’s a firm believer in her faith now, she’s also made a point of separating herself from her family by moving to the city with her husband, Jeremy.
When it comes to the perfect husband for Jinger, Jeremy may not have been her parents first choice, either. The publication notes Jeremy’s been arrested in the past and was admittedly a huge partier in college, which is certainly not Duggar-approved behavior. Even so, Jinger was able to look past all of this and fall in love — and now, the two have baby Felicity to round out their little family, too.
She posted this photo — and she’s wearing pants

Photos of Jinger and Jeremy’s baby, Felicity, have sparked controversy in the past. The couple often post photos of Felicity in a head wrap — something that has caused many of their more conservative fans to question if that style of headwear is aligned with Christian values. In Touch Weekly even notes Jinger was tired of getting mom-shamed every time she posted something new about Felicity, as it was really beginning to wear on her mental health.
As for the most recent controversy, Jinger posted a photo of her holding Felicity — but in the photo, she’s clearly wearing jeans. Hollywood Life reminds us the Duggar family had a strict dress code of skirts and dresses for the women, and none of the kids were allowed to wear jeans or any tight-fitted clothing growing up. Fans are loving Jinger’s new look, though, as one follower commented, “They haven’t worn pants their entire lives. Just shocked.” And another follower wrote, “Your jeans look amazing.”
This isn’t the first time Jinger has shocked fans with her sartorial choices, however. Let’s not forget that she also has her ears pierced, and she’s stepped out of the house in more modern-looking clothing a few times in the past as well.
It’s likely she’ll bring her daughter up in a more liberal way, too

Will Felicity also get to wear jeans like Jinger? While we see the Duggar mom in skirts and dresses more often than we see her in jeans, we’re willing to bet she’s going to be more lenient with her kids than her own parents were. But it also depends on what Jeremy thinks.
Nicki Swift explains one of the reasons Jinger is allowed to wear pants now is because her husband permits it. While Jim Bob, her father, was the one who originally had the final say in Jinger’s attire, it’s now up to Jeremy to make the rules. And Jeremy has stated in the past that as long as she dresses modestly, he has no problem with her wearing pants. We’re willing to bet these rules will also apply to Felicity.
