HOUSE Of Gucci starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver is coming to UK cinemas this November, but who was the man behind one of the world's most famous fashion houses?
Ridley Scott's new crime film will tell the story of Italian multi-millionaire Maurizio Gucci and his murderous widow Patrizia Reggiani.
Who was Maurizio Gucci?
Maurizio Gucci was born in 1948 in Florence as the only child of actor parents Rodolfo Gucci and Sandra Ravel.
Maurizio met Patrizia Reggiani at a party of Milan's social elite, where he was immediately struck by her beauty, likening her to Elizabeth Taylor.
In 1972, the couple were married in spite of Maurizio's father's objections to the union.
Rodolfo Gucci was the youngest of famous fashion designer Guccio Gucci's five sons and had a majority share of the family business.
After Rodolfo's death in 1983, Maurizio inherited his father's 50 per cent stake in the company and became embroiled in legal battles to oust various members of his family from the board.
This included a high profile court case against his uncle Aldo Gucci with a prosecution led by Donald Trump's former lawyer, Rudolph Guliani.
The family's shares in the Gucci empire were eventually bought by Investcorp, a Bahrain-based investment banking firm, and Maurizio sold his remaining stake to the firm in 1993 for an estimated $150-200 million.
How did Maurizio Gucci die?
In 1985 fashion house heir Maurizio Gucci left his wife of 12 years, Patrizia Reggiani, for a younger woman.
He had begun the affair with interior designer Paola Franchi while he was still married and subsequently chose to walk out on his wife and two daughters, Allegra and Alessandra.
Then, 10 years later in 1995, he was fatally shot by a hitman on the steps up to his office building in Milan.
A lack of evidence meant that it was not until 1997 that his ex-wife was arrested on suspicion of his murder, despite previously admitting that she wanted to kill him.
What followed next was a dramatic trial leading to the conviction and 18-year imprisonment of 'Black Widow' Reggiani, who was found guilty of orchestratingher husband's assassination.
What have the Gucci family said about the House Of Gucci movie?
The new movie is based on the page-turning book The House Of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, And Greed, which delves into the dramatic and mysterious lives of the famous family.
The Guccis appear to be unimpressed with the film thus far and have expressed concern over a lack of communication from Scott and his wife Giannina Facio.
"We are truly disappointed. I speak on behalf of the family," Maurizio's second cousin Patrizia Gucci said.
"They are stealing the identity of our family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system.”
In particular, the Gucci family appear to take the most issue with the appearance of the actors set to portray them.
This comes after pictures emerged from the film's set showing Al Pacino and Jared Leto in character as Aldo and Paolo Gucci.
"My grandfather was a very handsome man, like all the Guccis, and very tall, with blue eyes and very elegant,” Patrizia said.
“He is being played by Al Pacino, who is not very tall already, and this photo shows him as fat, short, with sideburns, really ugly. Shameful, because he doesn’t resemble him at all."
Of Jared Letto, who was rendered unrecognisable with a bald cap, she said, “horrible, horrible. I still feel offended."
