Just hours later in the same club, 21-year-old Chloe Leach had collapsed and died. Although the police initially linked the two cases it later turned out that her death was unrelated.
Judge Jeremy Richardson, QC, said at the time: ‘What happened last September was terrible. There you were in the nightclub with your associate who you supplied GHB a Class C drug. He knew what he was taking. That particular drug has a number of dangerous side effects.
‘He became extremely ill as a result of the harmful effects. If ever there was a case that demonstrated the dangerousness of that particular drug this was it.’
Speaking in 2013 to the Liverpool Echo he discussed the impact as he said: ‘I know that every part I get now, everything will be brought up again. But it’s a part of my life I can’t change.
‘I never intended to commit a crime, I haven’t got a criminal bone in my body, I really haven’t. I made a mistake and it all just unravelled. It was the worst six months of my life and it lost me a lot, but it’s gained me so much. I’ve always been grateful for my family, for everything, but now even more.’
Mochrie’s Emmerdale character does not share any similarity to his previous conviction as the character of Lee did not spike Victoria’s drink.
