It’s been two weeks since a new episode of The Masked Singer aired on Fox. Thankfully for fans, the dry spell is ending on November 6, with a two-hour special featuring performances from all 11 remaining contestants.
The second season of the hit singing competition show — which made its American debut last winter — is going strong. And fans won’t have to wait long for another installment of the wacky series once this season wraps up.
‘The Masked Singer’ has already been renewed for season 3
The Masked Singer was a big hit for Fox when it premiered last January, as TV viewers tuned in to watch costumed celebs belt out tunes. The network quickly announced that it was planning a second season. Then, in May, Fox revealed that season 3 was also in the works.
About 8 million people watched the first episode of The Masked Singer Season 2 on September 25. While the number of viewers was down compared to the first season premiere, it was still the most-watched program of the night.
‘The Masked Singer’ Season 3 will premiere after the Super Bowl
Fox is clearly hoping to make a splash with the third season of The Masked Singer. It will premiere on Sunday, February 2, 2020, immediately following Super Bowl LIV. Then, the series shifts back to its normal Wednesday time slot on February 5.
Beyond the premiere date, we don’t know much about the upcoming season of the show, though the network will likely start revealing sneak peeks as the costumes and contestant clues once we’re closer to the air date. If you’d like the chance to attend a live taping of the next season of The Masked Singer in Los Angeles, keep an eye on the show’s ticket page, which will be updated with more information when tickets become available.
The show’s designer is already working on costumes for next season
The outrageous costumes are a big part of The Masked Singer’s appeal. Will season 3 be able to top this season’s Leopard, Skeleton, or Butterfly? Costume designer Marina Toybina told The Wrap she’s set a high bar for the show’s next outing.
“This time around, I’m being very selective even in my own creativity, as to what we can do to make season 3 even more different,” she said. “How can I bring even more diversity and variety to the show?”
Toybina said she was taking fan feedback into account as she developed ideas for upcoming episodes. “I’m really focusing on not just the demographic, but elevating the creative heart of it,” she said. “I’m still in the baby process, but I think it’s gonna be amazing.”
The designer also shared which of the costumes she’s designed so far was her favorite. “I would have to lean towards The Ladybug,” she said. “I’m very excited to see it on stage because it’s so spectacular.”
The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Fox.
