Nearly two years have passed since Stranger Things Season 3 terrified audiences with its body-invading Mind Flayer. Sheriff Hopper took one for the team, leaving Joyce Byers, Eleven, and the Hawkins, Indiana crew riddled with grief. It’s since been confirmed that David Harbour’s character is still alive, and the actor recently gave a small update about Stranger Things Season 4.
‘Stranger Things’ season 4 is currently filming
Like other TV series and films, Stranger Things Season 4 halted production due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Netflix announced its renewal in fall 2019 and provided clues that the show would take things outside of the U.S. The Duffer Brothers revealed they originally began shooting in February 2020 before shutting down, and production resumed in October 2020.
Some filming commenced in Georgia, and other locations include New Mexico and Lithuania. Netflix dropped a teaser in May that showed Eleven and Dr. Brenner at the facility, indicating that more flashbacks are ahead along with Hopper’s stint in a Russian prison. As it stands, the show is still filming.
David Harbour says filming should wrap in August
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, David Harbour dished on his wedding, Black Widow, and Stranger Things. He’s just as excited as the fans, but he did reveal that filming for Stranger Things would probably end in August. But by his calculations, previous seasons dropped a few months after filming concluded, so maybe fans will see season 4 before 2021 ends. Maybe.
“You’re not supposed to say, but I’ll tell you. I’m almost done. We’ve got one more little stint. We should be done in like August,” said Harbour. He added that he’ll have to shave his head again before it ends for his role as Hopper.
Coincidentally, Harbour’s role as Red Guardian in Black Widow also required his character to spend time in a Russian prison. To avoid any overlap, Harbour said he secretly snapped some photos from the Marvel set and sent them to the Duffer Brothers. And it dawned on him that Hopper and Red Guardian should have different looks too.
He and the brothers changed Hopper’s appearance so it would be distinct from his Marvel character. “We came up with a whole different look for it,” said Harbour. “We had him shave his head and this whole thing.”
‘Stranger Things’ season 4 to introduce new characters
While fans are looking forward to seeing the OGs when Stranger Things returns, some new faces are due to show up. Hawkins High is getting its own Dungeons and Dragons club led by Joseph Quinn’s Eddie Munson. Teen Wolf actor Mason Dye joins the cast as a popular jock who learns about the sinister forces in Hawkins. Jonathan Byers gets a new best friend, who also happens to love smoking weed.
In Russia, Hopper finds an ally in a prison guard named Dmitri, played by Tom Wlaschiha, and there’s also a smuggler who viewers can assume will help the sheriff escape. One of the most anticipated appearances in season 4 will come from the iconic Robert Englund, who immortalized Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street. His character is a psychiatric patient who committed murder.
A military expert is also called in to handle the Hawkins problem, but there’s no telling who will survive the terror in this next installment. Based on those cemetery shots that recently went viral, count on more than a handful of deaths.
