Ridley Road filming locations: Where is the BBC series filmed?

BBC DRAMA Ridley Road follows Vivien Epstein, a Jewish hairdresser who becomes embedded in a group of antifascist street-fighters taking on homegrown Nazis.

The series is primarily set in 1960s London, but it was primarily shot in Manchester. Here's a full list of the show's filming locations…

Tib Street, Manchester

Tib Street, in Manchester's historic northern quarter, acts as the backdrop for the show.

Last November, the crew descended to turn Tib Street into the east end of London, 1962 – they were spotted adding vintage signs and features to the shop-fronts that line the street.

Tib Street was closed for filming, but it's normally a busy and bustling part of the city full of shops and restaurants.

Stamford Street, Greater Manchester

Another frequently seen location in the series is Stamford Street in Tameside, Greater Manchester.

Unlike Tib Street, Stamford Street is primarily a residential road, lined with terraced houses.

Le Mans Crescent, Bolton

Le Mans Crescent in Bolton was built in 1923 after the local council decided to extend the town hall.

Close to the centre of town, the crescent is a large and impressive building now houses the police, the courts and a library.

Silverwell Street, Bolton

Silverwell Street is a historic street located near the town centre of Bolton.

Full of classic 1960s architecture, it's easy to see why Silverwell Street was chosen for the new series.

When does Ridley Road start and how can I watch it?

Ridley Road, which is adapted from Jo Bloom's book of the same name, is made up of four one hour installments.

The lead, Vivien, is played by TV newcomer Agnes O'Casey.

The episodes will all drop at the same time on the BBC's streaming service, BBC iPlayer, at 9pm on October 3, 2021.
