Princess Diana Told Prince William The Truth About Prince Charles' Affair With Camilla Parker Bowles

Though Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage was always rocky –after Prince Harry’s birth in 1984 it took a turn for the worse. Since the prince had two sons –an heir and a spare, he turned away from his young wife and rekindled his romance with his ex-girlfriend, Camilla Parker Bowles.

Though Princess Diana knew about the affair from early on — things all came to a head after a kinky phone call between the prince and Parker Bowles leaked to the press in 1992. During the phone convo, the future King of England said he wanted to “live inside [Camilla’s] trousers as a pair of knickers” or, “a Tampax.” The Prince and Princess of Wales were finally allowed to separate before eventually divorcing in 1996.

Princess Diana told Prince William the truth about Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker Bowles

Prince William was just ten years old when his parents separated. Though Princess Diana did not give her eldest son all of the gory details surrounding her crumbling marriage –she was honest about her estranged husband’s affair with Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles. In 1995 during an interview with BBC, the late princess told Martin Bashir she wanted to be open and honest with her eldest child to try and make the situation easier for him. She said,

I went to the school and put it to William, particularly, that if you find someone you love in life you must hang on to it and look after it, and if you were lucky enough to find someone who loved you then one must protect it. William asked me what had been going on, and could I answer his questions, which I did. He said, was that the reason why our marriage had broken up? And I said, well, there were three of us in this marriage, and the pressure of the media was another factor, so the two together were very difficult. But although I still loved Papa I couldn’t live under the same roof as him, and likewise with him.
