In this long-awaited Power spin-off, fans can finally get an insight into Kanan Stark’s (played by Mekai Curtis) upbringing, after his complex introduction in the original series. After an eye-opening start to the Starz series, a brand new promo video for the upcoming episode has been released, which included a worrying clue about Kanan’s fate.

In the pilot episode of Raising Kanan, fans got to learn Kanan hadn’t always been involved in the drug business.

In the prequel series of Power, this seemed like the case, as Kanan (Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson) mentored king-pins James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick (Omari Hardwick) and Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora).

In fact, while he was in high school, the teenager excelled so much his principal recommended transfer to an elite school.

As an only child, Kanan’s mother Raquel Thomas (Patina Miller) sheltered him from the realities and implications of drug dealing while encouraging him to stay focused in school.

However, with Raquel running the streets and transporting drugs across New York, a curious Kanan rebelled.

After seeing his mother’s street rival selling drugs on her corner, the teenager took matters into his own hands in an attempt to restore her street cred.

Unbeknownst to him, Raquel had struck a deal with her rival and given him that particular area to sell on.

Without this knowledge, Kanan, accompanied by his friend D-wiz (Nile Bullock) wanted to force the enemy out by ambushing them and firing shots.

With Buck Twenty (Donte Grey) shot and dead, this caused major issues for Kanan and his family.

While on a family meal out with his uncles and cousin Jukebox (Hailey Kilgore) they were ambushed by the rival crew and shot at.

This happened again – later Kanan went to take the trash out at night and became victim of another drive-by aimed at him as a warning for the killing.

A desperate Raquel attempted to convince her son to move away and live with his grandma, especially after he purposely failed his entrance exam at the elite school.

However, Kanan was adamant about staying in New York to learn the drug business and protect his mother.

With that decision, Raquel took him out and taught him how to successfully aim and shoot a gun.

Ahead of the new episode, a new promo clip has been released and it looked as though, Kanan would be at the receiving end of a bullet.

The 30-second clip, saw him pick up a bullet outside his house and as he was analysing it a car was slowly driving by.

Raquel saw the threatening vehicle and screamed his name, knowing what was to come and, in the next scene, someone peered out the car window almost as if they were preparing to shoot him.

With the discovery of the bullet and blood on his hands there’s no doubt that Kanan has a price on his head.

Fans will have to tune in to the next episode to see if he will get shot by the rival gang or if Raquel will be able to strike a deal to save him.

New episode of Power Book III: Raising Kanan is available every Sunday on Starz.
