When season four of Ozark was first confirmed by Netflix, it was announced the dark drama would be going out “with a bang.” And after three seasons of following Marty (played by Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney), fans would be expecting nothing less, especially after the season three finale saw some of the biggest shocks in the show’s history. Now, the likes of Bateman and Linney have teased what lies ahead for the Byrdes in the final run.
WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Ozark season 3.
With the season three finale setting up a tantalising final run for the Byrdes in their work with Omar Navarro (Felix Solis), spoilers are being widely sought after by fans.
After all, the fallout for the deaths of Helen Pierce (Janet McTeer) and Ben Davis (Tom Pelphrey) still need to play out on-screen.
Add to the mix Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner) turning her back on the Byrdes once and for all and teaming up with the menacing Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery), and there are a lot of spinning plates going into season four.
And while Linney admits she has “no idea” about what to expect, Bateman has confessed he has spoke with showrunner Chris Mundy about what’s in store.
“I’ll play sort of half-dumb because I’ve been talking to Chris about this on-and-off,” he said during Deadline’s Virtual Panel earlier this month.
He continued: “I have a delete button I’m able to press so I can be sort of surprised.
“Basically, what we will see is a continuation of domestic harmony versus personal ambition. Sort of that push-pull that Marty and Wendy are dealing with, as well as what Ruth is dealing with.
“And what our kids are dealing with. It’s the devil and the angel on the shoulder all the way through. Stakes continue to rise, and might even get beyond our Ozark quarters.”
When casting director Alexa Fogel chimed in to joke that the killing off of so many people made her job harder, Bateman hinted there were plenty more deaths on the way.
“You’ve got a couple of new ones to slay this year,” Bateman teased.
Linney then perused over the possibilities of what’s to come and the questions she needs answering.
“The only thing that comes to mind,” Linney said. “Is how do you take responsibility for any of it? What do you take responsibility for, and what do you feel victimised by?

“And how do you slide in and out of that when you’re under so much stress, and the stakes keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger, and the hits keep getting deeper and more significant.
“How do you look at your own identity and what do you except as your own doing?
“Did you do it together, did someone do it to you, did you do it alone, did you pull someone else into it, did someone push you into it?”
Ozark showrunner told Linney she was on the right tracks, as he gave away: “I think that’s pretty spot on.”
The writer added: “Can you launder a family? We’ve been talking about myth-building, both a public perception and for yourself.
“How much self-delusion needs to go in?”
“We’re playing a lot with that. Thematically that’s a lot of what we’re talking about as we march towards the end.”
So while the cast and crew didn’t give away too many exact spoilers, it looks like plenty more bloodshed and shocking twists and turns are on the way.
Ozark seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix now.
