Who plays Lalit in Mirzapur series 2?

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Mirzapur season 2

Indian actor Brahma Mishra or Bramhaswaroop Mishra portrays Lalit, the right-hand man to Munna Tripathi (played by Divyendu Sharma).

Lalit is something of a simple and comedic figure, who goes along with Munna’s hare-brained schemes.

Instead of perhaps telling Munna to think things through, Lalit appears to validate his friend.

While it’s not clear why Lalit goes along with Munna, the reason could well be fear of his friend – who also happens to be the son of Kaleen Bhaiya Tripathi (Pankaj Tripathi), the godfather of Mirzapur and a powerful gangster.

For Lalit, it’s safer to follow Munna than try and leave him, which is likely to see his death sealed.

However, Lalit ended up meeting a tragic end in season two of Mirzapur regardless after serving Munna so well over the years.

Lalit was killed by Kaleen Bhaiya’s muscle Maqbool Khan (Shaji Chaudhary) after the Tripathis paid a visit to the Chief Minister Surya Pratap Yadav (Paritosh Sand).

He met his end in episode three’s Khargosh – which means rabbit in Hindi and is seen as a sacrificial animal – with Lalit become the eponymous scapegoat of the episode.

The Chief Minister was demanding an end to the violence in Mirzapur, caused primarily by the Tripathis and their thriving illicit gun business.

As a form of sacrifice, Kaleen Bhaiya had Lalit murdered in the Chief Minister’s office and assigned the blame for the violence at the wedding in the season one finale.

Although Munna was the one firing the gun, it was Lalit who unwittingly took the fall after Kaleen Bhaiya invited him along with them for the meeting.

After Lalit was killed, the mobster of Mirzapur asked his son what he’d learnt from the incident.

Munna simply replied how Lalit had been a pawn the whole time and sometimes these sacrifices needed to be made.

Lalit’s death meant Munna was now off the hook for the violence at the wedding while the Triapthis continued with their lucrative if deadly gun business, bribing the local enforcement to turn a blind eye to their enterprises.

Actor Mishra is also a production manager and has worked on a number of projects, including Super 30 and 2009’s The Man’s Woman and Other Stories.

Some of his other projects include the Bollywood movie Kesari, Chor Chor Super Chor, Manjhi: The Mountain Man and Badrinath Ki Dulhania.

Among his other TV show credits are Office vs. Office and Not Fit, while short films include Vaimanik and The Last Audition.

Mishra studied at the Excellence College in Bhopal, India and in 2003 decided he wanted to pursue theatre.

He started off his career doing plays on the stage and three years later in 2006 he moved to Pune to attend the Film and Television Institute of India.

During his time at the Institute, he worked on films including Amit Dutta’s Nainsukh after which Mishra moved to Mumbai to focus on films.

In an interview with Magazine Plus from 2019, Mishra said due to his short stature, audiences usually associated him with comedic roles – much like Mirzapur.

However, he credits his role in Kesari as helping to “break” this image for him as he gave a more serious performance.

Mishra admitted the role was also one which he found challenging but it appears to have been to his benefit and shown his range as a performer.
