Mel C teams up with rapper Nadia Rose to make grime track for her new album

MELANIE C is living up to her initials by teaming up with an MC for an unlikely move into grime music.

The Spice Girls singer has secretly recorded a tune with Croydon-born rapper Nadia Rose, which will feature on Mel’s upcoming eighth solo album.

She will release the record later this year before getting back together with the Spice Girls for a tour, which I revealed last month they were plotting.

Speaking about the surprising collaboration, Mel said: “I was lucky enough to meet a female MC and grime artist here in the UK called Nadia and she is pure girl power.

“I was so excited.

“I approached her about working together and she was really up for it.

“She was a big fan.

“We got together and we had a wonderful time in the studio and what we’ve created is really special.

“I’m very excited for people to hear that.”

Melanie now hopes to tour her new record early next year but confirmed she is then aiming on getting back together with bandmates Geri Horner, Mel B and Emma Bunton — although their plans to tour are up in the air due to the coronavirus.

She said: “Who knows when we can travel?

“We are just talking about how we want to do it but we have to wait and see how the future of touring looks, because obviously that’s a huge thing to move around the world.

“So many tours have moved from this year to next year that you can’t even book venues.

“It’s a tricky time. But beyond that, we hope to get back out there.”

Yesterday was the 24th anniversary of the release of the girls’ No1 debut single Wannabe but Mel has ruled out any new music from the group for now.

Speaking about the prospect of new Spice songs, she said on an Instagram Live session: “Not at the moment.

“I just don’t know whether there’s room for new Spice Girls music.”

You never know — if grime is a hit for Mel, we could soon see Geri spitting bars with Stormzy.

Maya gives trolls the cold shoulder

MAYA Jama was top of the crops as she headed to filming in central London.

The ex-Radio 1 DJ beamed as she arrived at a TV studio in the capital on Tuesday to start work on the next instalment of Peter Crouch’s Save Our Summer for BBC1.

Maya looked radiant in a white off-the-shoulder top and puff sleeves, which she wore with a pair of blue skinny jeans and pink high heels.

During the series, she has been targeted by Twitter bores who moaned that her outfits are “too revealing”, but Maya has had enough of trolls.

She said this week: “If you believed everything that was written online you’d probably end up scared to go outside because you’d be like, ‘If that’s how many people are saying it, then that’s how real people are’. But it’s not.

“I think there’s a big sense of security on the internet and it allows people to offload on to strangers sometimes. It’s not nice.”

JAMES Corden says one of his three kids may want to follow in his footsteps.

He said: “There is a strong chance that one of our children will want to seek a life in performing arts.”

Whisky Punch & Judy

THEY quit boozing in 2018 but that is not stopping Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan getting everyone else plastered.

TV star Richard has been brewing blueberry whisky at home and it’s so strong that it knocked out his rugby player son-in-law James Haskell.

And he is a big guy, so it must be some strong stuff.

James said: “The one thing that I’m a massive fan of – he makes blueberry whisky which he gives out on Christmas Day, which he makes throughout the year and it’s unbelievable.

“But it is exceptionally dangerous.

“He gave me a bottle – I’m not sure how much it was but by the end of Boxing Day this year I’d drunk all of it, which obviously, you don’t then want to embarrass yourself round at Richard and Judy’s house.

“But yeah, his blueberry whisky is next-level. I think he ferments it with different combinations.”

Richard and Judy stopped drinking almost two years ago as part of a drive to have a healthier lifestyle.

James told the Fortunately podcast: “Both him and Judy don’t drink any more, so as long as he keeps making the whisky for me I don’t mind that he doesn’t drink it.”

Send a bottle my way.

Hitting high 'n' Flo notes

FLORENCE Pugh has been a hit in Hollywood and now she is hoping to take the music world by storm.

The Oxford- born actress, who was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year for her role in Little Women, can see herself having a career as a singer.

She said: “I’d love to go into music at some point.

"I used to do it as much as acting and I let that one slip while I got on with acting.”

The 24-year-old is living in LA with her Scrubs actor boyfriend Zach Braff, who is 21 years her senior.

Florence has been the subject of trolls because of their age gap.

On the An Hour Or So With pod-cast, she hit back: “I’ve always found it funny how I can be good enough for people to watch my work and I’m old enough to pay taxes, but I’m not old enough to know who I should and should not have sex with.”

Good on her.

Lewis' steps four-ward

LEWIS Capaldi is determined to write another 90 songs for his second album, despite already having 30 in the bag.

The Someone You Loved crooner said: “I’ve written 25 to 30 songs.

"Out of them, maybe four are really strong and definitely going on the album.

“So over the next few months if I do another 30, another 30, another 30 and I get four from each batch . . .

“I’ve done something like 600 songs, 450 are awful, I’ve got another 100 that are OK and then I’ve 50 that are good songs and then one which is a hit, which is Someone You Loved and Before You Go and that’s it.”

Speaking about who is inspiring the record, Lewis said on US radio: “Now I’m making a second album I’m kind of obsessed with second albums that have been successful, like Ed Sheeran’s second album and Adele’s second.

I’ve been listening to his music over and over again and Adele’s because those two second albums are so iconic.

“I really look up to Ed and Adele.”

Ellie tour fears

ELLIE Goulding has admitted she fears for the future of the music industry after lockdown.

The singer reckons people might not want to go to live concerts any more and will stay at home instead.

She said: “I’m worried that people are going to get used to seeing their favourite artists at home and they’re not going to want to go back to music venues.”

I can see why it’s such a concern for Ellie, whose new album Brightest Blue is out on July 17, as she is set to tour the UK next April for the first time in five years.

But as soon as I have the chance to go to a gig again, I’ll be there.
