The actor, who played Joey in the hit 90s sitcom, spoke about the bizarre encounter speaking to Live with Kelly and Ryan.
Matt has spoken of his shock when a young Friends fan thought he was Joey Tribbiani's dad.
Friends star Matt, 51, has shared his horror at being recognised by a young kid on the street… as "Joey's dad."
Speaking to LIVE with Kelly and Ryan, the Joey Tribbiani actor said: "I was walking down the street one day, this was a few years ago, this kid, he must have been 13, 14, he's like, 'Oh my God, you're Joey’s dad!'
"And, my response was, 'Scram!' Like an old guy would say."
Matt became a household name when he starred in Friends sitcom from 1994-2004.
He started to work on Top Gear as a host in 2016.
Meanwhile fans had an unwelcome dose of reality when they realised that Ross and Rachel's daughter Emma is an adult.
A Twitter user made the clever observation that the baby in the series would be 18 next year — and Friends addicts couldn't get their heads around it.
@justlucyslife Tweeted: "Ok so I was watching Friends last night and Ross was filming a tape for Emma’s 18th birthday and Chandler says the line 'Hi Emma. It’s 2020. Have you woken up from your nap yet?'
"And it’s just dawned on me that 2020 is NEXT YEAR. Emma would be 18 NEXT YEAR."
Even though the hit series ended 15 years ago, the show was Netflix's most-binged show in 2018 – so the Tweet got lots of responses.
But Emma in the show was actually played by a set of twins – Noelle and Cami Sheldon.
The pair, who are now 16, took it in turns to play David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston's onscreen daughter until the show's final season in 2004.
And they haven't stopped acting, as the sisters will star in Jordan Peele's much anticipated horror thriller Us.
Noelle and Cami will feature alongside Elisabeth Moss, Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke.
