Kate Garraway’s GMB future sealed amid TV break as husband Derek fights for life

Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway looks set to return to the ITV breakfast news show after appearing in the channel's latest advert.

She joined stars such as Piers Morgan and Holly Willoughby as the stars of ITV's hit shows teased their returns to work.

The group are seen reflecting on their respective summers in lockdown as they prepare to return to their shows for the first time in months.

Susanna announced: "Piers Morgan, Holly Willoughby," as Piers chipped in: "And a pint."

This Morning's Holly then says she's been reunited with her loved ones as pictures flash up of her recent family holiday to Portugal.

Kate is also seen making a cameo in the short clip, seemingly confirming she will be back on the show for business as usual.

It comes after she took five months off work when her husband Derek Draper fell ill with coronavirus complications.

Derek has since woken up from his coma, but remains in a minimum state of consciousness, meaning he is unable to walk, talk or respond to his wife.

Kate made a return to the show this month but announced she would be spending more time at home in September to help her kids get back to school.

She said on the show last week: "I'm not actually here next week, I'm taking a break to help Billy prepare for starting secondary school."

She also mentioned her plans to spend more time with Derek.

Kate said: "I just want to say thank you to all of you for absolutely being brilliant when I came back through challenging times."

She has been replaced by her friends Charlotte Hawkins this week, who has been presenting the show along with Adil Ray.

The ITV presenters are set to return next week, with Holly and Phil being scheduled to come back to This Morning on September 1.

GMB continues tomorrow at 6am on ITV.
