Jeremy Vine reveals incredible secret talent that saw him play in FOUR bands desperate for chart success

JEREMY Vine has revealed his incredible secret talent that saw him play in FOUR bands desperate for chart success.

The 56-year-old is best known for his daily Channel 5 current affairs show, as well as being the host of quiz show, Eggheads.

But away from his presenting and journalist duties, Jeremy has a talent that his fans may not know about.

Speaking to The Sun's TV Mag, he revealed: "I play the drums – I used to play drums in a band with my brother Tim, called The Flared Generation.

"When you’re a teenager – every single teenager in Britain in 1980 was in a band, I guarantee it. In fact, at one point I was in four bands and the reason is that all wanted to be like The Jam.

"So yeah, it’s not a case of enjoyment, you feel this enormous hope that gradually gives way to disappointment. And I think that’s quite good preparation for life in general."

He continued: "Some people will break through, like Taylor Swift or whoever but it’s quite a good burst of realism I think for a teenager to realise that your band is good but it’s not good enough.

"It’s quite a painful process actually. When we started we thought: ‘We’re away, we’ve got a band’ and then we realised Paul Weller was several thousand leagues above us."

Discussing his music inspirations, Jeremy said Elvis Costello is one of his heroes.

He said: "I think the person who’s really spoken to me most throughout my life is Elvis Costello.

"I veer between him and Joy Division, who are of course so different, but they were also a big part of my teenage year.

"I became friendly with the bass player, Peter Hook, and I really like the guy and it’s a lovely thing to actually know someone who was in the band.

"But Elvis Costello’s the one who, just lyrically, I find him just extraordinary. I think he’s just the most amazing artist. He’s so creative."
