Is Whitney leaving EastEnders after Leo's death?

After Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) killed Leo King (Tom Wells) in a violent showdown on Friday night’s EastEnders, her fate on the soap is unclear.

Prior to the attack, Whitney had been living in fear for weeks while she awaited evil Leo’s next moves.

The character had attempted to get close to her in recent months as part of his plan to avenge the death of his paedophile dad Tony King (Chris Coghill).

He had been stalking victim Whitney for months, trying to blame her for his father’s actions.

Leo had even taken to camping in the attic of her home, at times ransacking it to try to find incriminating evidence.

On Friday night’s show, he left the attic and cornered Whitney in her room before things got physical between the pair.

In the violent clash that ensued, Whitney ended up killing Leo in self-defence, when he fell into a knife which she managed to wiggle out of his hands.

So, will she get locked up for crimes? Or will she try to leave Walford before she is caught?

Is Whitney leaving EastEnders?

There is no suggestion Whitney will leave EastEnders, with boss Jon Sen even suggesting the current events are part of a two-year storyline for the character.

In 2019 he told Metro.co.uk: ‘This story becomes a chapter in a much longer arc that we have planned going forward.’

‘Without saying too much, this is just one more chapter in her story, but overtime — over the next 18 months — she learns from everything that you’re going to see, and going on into Christmas, and the 35th next year.’

However, even if she remains on the soap, it’s unclear how she will currently move forwards.

This week’s anniversary special will show her turn to Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) for help, who attempts to reassure her and protect her from any more harm.

Unfortunately, their closeness will be misinterpreted by Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) who assumes there is a romantic spark between the pair, causing her to flip out.

Tonight’s episode of EastEnders will kick off a week-long 35th anniversary special, where each episode will focus on the day of the fateful boat party – all told from the perspective of different characters.

The EastEnders anniversary week kicks off tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
