Emmerdale star reveals 'awful situation for Al' as he faces losing Chas

Two-timing Al has been seeing Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) behind the back of his fiancé Kerry (Laura Norton) for months now, but as he faces losing her in the aftermath of Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary storm, actor Michael Wildman reveals that his love for Chas is ‘genuine’.

Not only is Chas injured in the storm, but Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) is aware of her affair and is determined to end it once and for all.

Aaron made the discovery when he found the pair kissing on the back doorstep of the Woolpack and has threatened to expose their secret if things don’t stop.

‘[It’s an] awful situation to be in for Al,’ he explained.

‘His love is genuine for Chas without a doubt. No two ways about it at the moment, certainly.

‘[He has] less to lose than Chas who is married with a kid.’

‘Sometimes when you’re in love you can’t help it, it’s just there. You try and fight against it as hard as you can but it’s just going to happen. You hope you can deal with it when it does.’

Fans have watched furiously as Chas and Al’s affair has played out, with many feeling sorry for Chas’ husband, Paddy (Dominic Brunt).

‘They love to hate him,’ Michael said of the fan reaction. ‘Generally, in public I’m met by a raised eyebrow and people saying, “he’s a naughty boy!”‘

With both Aaron and Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) aware of the sordid affair, it’s only a matter of time before the news gets out.

One person we’re all eager to see the reaction of is Chas’ brother, resident hardman Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).

‘It’s about time the two of them started rubbing up against each other!’ Michael enthused. ‘It’s been in the making for a long time, let’s get on with it! It’s a situation that surely has to come…’
