EastEnders fans tuning into BBC One's new drama Noughts and Crosses couldn't handle a major twist in episode one.
Fresh from the shock of original Ben Mitchell actor Charlie Chambers appearing in the series , he was killed off by the end of the first episode.
Charlie played Ben Mitchell on the BBC soap between 2006 and 2010, before the role was recast.
While he wasn't the original Ben technically, he's one of the longest-serving actors in the role – and one of the most memorable.
Viewers were excited to see him back on screen a decade on from his Walford exit – but it was all short-lived.
Charlie's character Danny, a Nought, had been attacked by two police officers, who were Crosses, after a party got out of hand.
Crosses are members of the black ruling class, while Noughts are members of the white underclass.
But in a twist, Danny was murdered by a fellow Nought from a rebel group, who was trying to make him a martyr to create tensions between the two classes.
As the surprise scenes aired, fans raced to Twitter in shock that "Ben Mitchell" had been killed off so soon.
Others joked it was justice for Heather Trott, who Ben, albeit a different Ben, accidentally killed on EastEnders years ago.
One fan tweeted: "Oh no, he killed Ben!"
Another said: "That SOB just killed OG Ben? THAT WAS FOR HEATHER."
A third added: "Yooo they killed Ben number 3 for good," while a fourth echoed: "Oh no Ben Mitchell is dead!"
Charlie played Ben for five years during his childhood, and was at the centre of some huge storylines including Stella's abuse.
The actor was recast in 2010, and three other actors have played the role since then.
Charlie was the third actor in the role, but viewers always remember him as Ben despite it being 10 years since he left.
As viewers tuned in to the first episode of Noughts and Crosses, they raced to Twitter to see if anyone else had noticed who the actor was.
Noughts + Crosses airs Thursdays at 9pm on BBC One.
