The Sun exclusively revealed Charlie Brooks' return as Janine earlier this year.
The killer will soon make her long-awaited comeback to Walford after seven years away – with Scarlett set to join her.
A source told The Sun: "Tabitha has already started filming and viewers are in for a treat when she starts appearing later this year.
"However, we will have to wait and see whether Scarlett is evil like her swindling mum Janine or the total opposite."
Our exclusive pictures showed actress Charlie covered in soot and ash as she filmed her dramatic arrival scenes.
Neighbours who live close to the BBC set reported hearing explosions and evidence of a huge fireball engulfing the Square.
At the time it was reported Janine could be involved and now that looks to have been confirmed with the new pictures.
Bosses are keen to keep the fireball plot under wraps, but local residents saw the smoke and heard a collection of emergency service vehicles wailing in the Square.
A source said: “Bosses have a huge story planned for Charlie’s return.
“They are keeping tight-lipped about whether Janine will come back as a reformed character after all the chaos she has caused in the past.
“But she certainly has a lot of history in Albert Square so whether she will be welcomed back with open arms or not remains to be seen.
“One thing the viewers can be sure about is that it is bound to be explosive. Wherever Janine goes, drama is never far behind.”
Janine was last seen heading to Paris in 2014 to pick up her daughter Scarlett but her whereabouts have been unknown since then.
It can also be confirmed that her daughter Scarlett will return with her.
Janine’s sudden reappearance will likely send shockwaves around Walford and with enemies to boot around every corner, trouble will no doubt follow her back to E20.
Executive producer Jon Sen added: “Janine is one of EastEnders most iconic characters who is loved, and often despised, in equal measure by viewers and all those in Walford.
“Charlie’s portrayal of Janine over the years has created some of EastEnders most memorable moments and we are all really excited to see Charlie bring her incredible portrayal of Janine back again.
“We have lots of drama in store for Janine, in fact it may be wise for some of the residents of Walford to invest in some slip on shoes…”
