It feels like only yesterday Peter Barlow returned to the cobbles, but it looks like he might be leaving – this time in a boat!
Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne has revealed that Peter develops ambitions beyond Weatherfield, and hopes to sail away from all of his troubles.
When Peter decides not to buy the snooker hall, he is shocked when a delivery man calls at No. 1 with a gift from Carla – a boat.
Peter thanks Carla for her gift and tells Simon that he plans to restore it and sail around the Caribbean. He also reveals he hopes Simon will come with him.
"He thinks he’s going to go. I don’t think he’s having a mid-life crisis. He’s always had a crisis, I don’t think mid-life is any different," Chris explains.
"You’d think it would be a car, but it’s not, it’s a boat.
"He sees is as a way to leave, but it’s a dream. That’s the sad thing, he’s working on this boat with the idea of ‘I’m going to do this up and I’m going to leave all this behind’.
"That’s the great thing about it, why he’s put so much work into it, it’s the tragedy of what happens."
Asked about how the new year looks for Peter, Chris says it looks "fantastic".
He says: "It’s all going to happen, he thinks ‘this is it, I’m happy, I’m not doing this job’, he’s telling everybody he’s a free spirit. He thinks he’s got away from the rat race. He’s very zen."
