Fans of Coronation Street were taken aback on Monday evening after the programme introduced a dramatic flash forward at the start of the show.

The long-running ITV soap has promised viewers a captivating week ahead as we finally get to see what will happen with Abi Webster and Imran Habeeb as they fight for full ownership of their child Alfie.

But just before the drama kicked off, the soap gave fans a glimpse of the chaos that lies ahead which included a number of police on the street and Imran giving a powerful speech in his car.

Seeing the dramatic change to to the usual programme viewers quickly hopped on Twitter to share their views, however some were clearly confused.

One person penned: "Not much point watching #corrie this week as they have just shown what is going to happen. Really annoying."

Another echoed: "I think #corrie just broke a 62 year old tradition by showing scenes out of order via a flash forward. What was the point?"

A third said: "Flashforward. Incidental music. Sound effects . Wonky camerawork. Do not want any of this.

However some were loving it, with one person writing: "Now that’s how you do a flash forward #Emmerdale so excited too see the rest of this weeks episodes #Corrie."

Another viewer shared: "Wow, that flash forward at the beginning. #Corrie is not messing around this week, at the edge of my seat indeed.

While a third spectator agreed and said: "Corrie is not messing around with this dramatic flash forward."
