Coronation Street boss reveals huge anniversary stunt was ditched

With the Coronation Street 60th anniversary just days away, and three dramatic storylines ready to take centre stage, we can’t wait for all of the action to kick off!

Something as huge as an anniversary to celebrate sixty years of the longest running soap in the world certainly takes some planning, and add a global pandemic into the mix, suffice to say developing the stories and action packed episodes has been a challenge for the Corrie team behind the cameras.

As Corrie boss Iain MacLeod recently told Metro.co.uk, the original plan for a huge stunt was actually ditched because of the social distancing measures currently in place for filming:

‘We had to change a fair amount but the fundamental essence of the stories are still what you will see. We were going to build some stuff and have a few more stunts so we had to jettison that idea.’

Iain continued, mentioning how cutting out the explosive scenes actually allowed them to focus more on what makes Coronation Street so special:

‘It has forced us to focus on character, writing and performance and boil them down to the essence. And that’s truer to the original Coronation Street rather than the bells and whistles.’

‘The pandemic has pushed the brilliance of what Corrie is front and centre – it’s been an interesting exercise.’
