Chester Bennington’s son breaks down in tears over dad’s death

Trailer for Family Legacy

Chester Bennington’s son has opened up about the impact the Linkin Park’s singer’s death has had on his life.

Draven, 20, stars in new Paramount+ and MTV series Family Legacy, which details the inner workings of famous musicians through the eyes of their children.

Linkin Park, famed for songs including Numb, One Step Closer and Crawling, have established themselves as icons of the nu-metal movement in rock music.

But the international fanbase was rocked when on July 20, 2017, lead singer Chester Bennington was found dead in his family home. The death was later ruled a suicide.

He was 41 years old and was survived by his wife of 12 years, Belinda, and seven children.

Opening up about his dad’s death in the interview, Draven – who was 15 at the time of Bennington’s death – gets emotional as he talks on camera for the first time about it.

“I mean my dad’s passing is definitely the hardest thing in my life, it’s just everything has definitely changed,” he said.

“I thought he was going to see me graduate high school and have my first girlfriend… and that just never happened.”

Breaking down in tears, Draven continued: “He was the glue of the family, like, he kept us all together, and then we were all pretty lost without him.

“Sorry… I can articulate that well right now.”

The interview is then temporarily stopped as he is comforted by his mother, Bennington’s first wife, Samantha Marie Olit.

After taking a moment to gather himself, Draven added: “There’s a huge mix of emotions when I’m watching these old clips. These are great accomplishments of him in his prime, doing his best.”

Draven is now creating his own music, focusing more on rap and hip-hop than his rocker dad, and also works as an artist.

Other participants on the new series include: CJ Wallace, the son of Faith Evans and Biggie Smalls; Baylee Littrell, the son of Backstreet Boys’ Brian Littrell; and Briahna Fatone, the daughter of *NSync’s Joey Fatone.

Family Legacy is available exclusively now on Paramount+.
