Celebrity MasterChef fans have revealed their surprise at the outcome of the latest quarter-final.

Friday night's episode saw Melanie Sykes, Megan McKenna and Penny Lancaster face off in an attempt to advance to the semi-final stage of the competition.

With only two places up for grabs, the pressure was on as the women cooked for a host of judges including Good Morning Britain's Andi Peters and Strictly Come Dancing judge extraordinaire, Craig Revel Horwood.

It was later revealed that Melanie and Megan would be advancing to the next stage of the competition, which surprised viewers on Twitter who hoped Penny would advance.

One wrote: "That’s very surprising, I thought Penny would go pretty far."

Another commented: "Oh no ! Gutted for Penny Lancaster ! Damn that endive dish! She has been an absolute sweetheart thought this week."

A third responded: "Oh no!!! Penny was a joy to watch!!! Loved her."
