Casualty viewers were left very divided by the latest episode of the BBC drama, as a doctor used live maggots on a patient’s huge wound.
Guest character Campbell was brought into hospital after suffering a pressure sore that needed treating.
Doctor Dylan decided larval therapy would be the best course of action, attempting to rid any infection using live maggots.
The practise, backed by doctors and scientists, sees maggots used to remove dead skin from wounds, and help clean the infected area.
While Marty was too disgusted to assist Dylan, student nurse Jade was more than happy to step in.
She was actually pretty impressed by the technique, with Dylan then showing her where he stores the maggots and flies used for treatment.
Even Campbell wasn’t that fazed, asking to see his gory wound and the maggots at work.
Jade took a photo on her phone to show him, with Dylan surprised she was so keen to witness it.
Viewers, however, were not so keen by the scenes.
While some fans loved the moment, others were completely put off watching the show.
Taking to Twitter , one fan said: “Arghh drop this maggot line already.”
Another agreed: “Maggots. YACK, YACK and did I say YACK?”
Other were pretty impressed though, with one fan tweeting: “Love that they use maggots in modern medicine!”
Casualty continues next Saturday on BBC One at 8:25pm.
