After wowing viewers as Bridgerton’s Duke of Hastings, actor Rege-Jean Page has been heavily tipped to land the role of James Bond.

But as reports continued to swirl online that Rege-Jean could be replacing Daniel Craig as 007, and his betting odds have been slashed, the star has had his say.

The actor appeared on American show The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and quickly shut down the claims, joking that any British actor who is propelled to fame is quickly added into the mix.

In the TV interview, US chat show host Jimmy asked Rege-Jean about the rumours saying he’d love to see him take on the iconic role.

But Rege-Jean dashed hopes, laughing as he answered: “I think the internet thinks a lot of things and that’s one of the more pleasant ones so I’m pleased as far as that goes.”

The 31 year old continued: “I think there might be an element of cultural translation to be done here.”

“If you’re a Brit and you do something of any kind of renown that people regard well, then people start saying the B word. It’s like a merit badge. You get the B-word merit badge.”

The actor added that he was happy to be in the mix, but doesn’t think the reports will come to anything.

He said: “I don’t think it’s much more than that. I’m glad to have the badge, I’m glad to be in such wonderful company of people who have the badge, but it’s a badge.”

During the interview, the star also opened up about filming the megahit Netflix show alongside Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton.

Describing the show, he said: “It’s kind of like Jane Austen meets Gossip Girl, with like, 35 Shades of Grey.”

And it’s clear he had a whale of a time on set, as he recalled filming big dancing scenes with his leading lady.

“We rehearsed it until we dropped. We spent endless hours in dance rehearsals,” he explained.

He continued: “Neither Phoebe or I are championship dancers, but we were surrounded by professional dancers.”

“We’d call each other up and be like, ‘hey, I know we rehearsed all week but are you free on Saturday to rehearse the dance some more?’”
