Blue Bloods season 14 renewal announcement
Archbishop Kevin Kearns (played by Stacy Keach) made his most recent appearance on the hit CBS drama at the start of the current season and has become one of Blue Bloods’ most beloved guest stars over the years. Details about the upcoming finale are being kept under wraps, but the latest update from the showrunners on Instagram could seal his return.
Executive producer Siobhan Byrne O’Connor has confirmed the 13th season finale will be titled Forgive Us Our Trespasses.
Given the name is a direct reference to the Lord’s Prayer, it’s safe to assume Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) will be dropping in with his clerical friend Archbishop Kearns at some point in the episode.
In her Instagram post, O’Connor confirmed: “Our Blue Bloods finale!
“Written by me and showrunner Kevin Wade. Episode 21, a lucky number. Stay tuned…”
A synopsis for the episode has yet to be revealed, so it’s unclear how Kearns will feature if he does make an appearance.
However, the Archbishop has made a habit of meeting up with Frank after some of the toughest moments for the Reagan family.
Kearns most recently appeared in the season 13 premiere, Keeping the Faith, which kicked off the current instalment with Frank and the Archbishop walking through the city.
During their last encounter, the Commissioner lamented the state of the world and admitted he was losing faith in humans’ ability to do the right thing.
If the title of the finale is anything to go by, this theme could come full circle over the next few weeks leading up to another confessional with the Archbishop.
Guest star Keach has also just completed his arc as Robert Vesco in the crime drama The Blacklist, freeing him up for another guest spot on Blue Bloods.
In this episode of the NBC series’ 10th and final season, Vesco was tragically killed shortly after his reunion with Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington (James Spader) earlier in the season.
Now his schedule has been freed up, it’s entirely possible for Keach to not only appear in the Blue Bloods finale, but also return for the cop drama’s now-confirmed 14th season.

CBS confirmed the series would continue into 2024 last week, which drew an ecstatic reaction from its millions of fans.
Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said: “Led by the outstanding Tom Selleck and an incredible cast and creative team, viewers continue to embrace the Reagans, their law enforcement family and the series’ dramatic storytelling.
“We can’t wait to pull a chair up to the Reagan family dinner table for another fantastic season.”
And the official announcement on Blue Bloods’ Instagram read: “The Reagan family traditions continue!”
“#BlueBloods has been renewed for season 14 – we’ll save you a seat at the table.”
The news also received excited responses from the show’s main cast, including Donnie Wahlberg, Abigail Hawk and Will Hochman.
Blue Bloods season 13 continues Fridays on CBS in the USA and the following Mondays on Sky Witness in the UK.
