What with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the President of the United States hiding in a bunker, it can often seem like we’re living in a series of Black Mirror.
And it seems Netflix is making the most of that frightening thought.
A sobering yet savage outdoor ad has popped up in Madrid, letting passers by star in their very own season six of Black Mirror.
Juan Manuel Toribio shared a snap of the bus stop ad as he snapped a selfie in the grimy mirror, which featured the Netflix logo and the slogan: ‘Black Mirror 6th Season. Live now, everywhere.’
Translated from Spanish, Toribio tweeted: ‘This Black Mirror promo is just brutal.’
According to Fast Company, the clever ad was a collaboration between Netflix and Madrid-based creative ad agency Brother.
When asked by Radio Times about a possible sixth season of Black Mirror, he said: ‘I’ve been busy, doing things. I don’t know what I can say about what I’m doing and not doing.
‘At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those.
‘I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.’
Brooker did give us a good giggle last month with his special edition of Screenwipe, Antiviral Wipe, which looked at the pandemic, 5G conspiracies Boris Johnson’s government through the lens of Charlie and Philomena Cunk’s dark humour.
And that was before the whole Dominic Cummings situation came about – Charlie would have had a field day.
Black Mirror began back in 2011 on Channel 4 and was later snapped up by Netflix, with five series airing to date.
While there have been some bright spots in the form of San Junipero and Nosedive, it is known for its dark tone, pushing technology to its limits and predicting how it could affect humanity.
Season five, consisting of three episodes starring Andrew Scott, Anthony Mackie and Miley Cyrus, arrived on the streaming service in June 2019, while we were gifted a standalone interactive movie called Bandersnatch in 2018.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Netflix for comment.
All five seasons of Black Mirror are available to stream on Netflix.
