Channel 4’s culinary extravaganza The Great British Bake Off will be back soon. There were fears the show might not go ahead this year due to the coronavirus pandemic but thankfully the white tent will be back. Express.co.uk has the lowdown on the forthcoming series.

When does the new series of The Great British Bake Off start?

Channel 4 has yet to confirm a date for the new series but there are hopes the show will be coming to screens in the not-too-distant future.

The broadcaster will be unveiling its teaser for the forthcoming series, which means it won’t be long now.

Whether the show will be pared back remains to be seen with fellow reality series Strictly Come Dancing opting for a shorter run this year.

The social distancing measures in place may also mean filming on Bake Off may have taken longer.

However, with a show like Bake Off, it would be easier to social distance by making the tent larger to account for extra space.

Generally, each series of Bake Off has started towards the end of August and into the beginning of September but this year the COVID-19 pandemic saw the start date pushed back.

In the trailer, a boy is seen cycling through the streets as he hurries home while people around him are desperately trying to get ingredients during lockdown to make bakes items.

The boy makes it to his grandmother’s house and presents him with the all-important ingredient of flour – something which was in short supply during the coronavirus lockdown.

As the teaser ends, the boy and his grandmother are sitting in their garden in front of a giant cake.

The cake has icing which spells out: “Bake Off’s back.”

Zaid Al-Qassab, Chief Marketing Officer said: “This year’s Great British Bake Off campaign highlights that baking is about so much more than sustenance – it’s a gift.

“The film illustrates the nation’s joyous love of baking inspired by our shared experience of lockdown in a typically Channel 4 way and we hope it gets viewers as excited as we are for the return of our biggest show!”

The new series of Bake Off will see the main judging panel coming back with Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith sampling the delights the contestants will be whipping up in the tent.

However, there will be a change in the hosting line-up with Noel Fielding now being joined by Little Britain star Matt Lucas.

Lucas will be replacing Sandi Toksvig who announced she was stepping down from the show.

The Great British Bake Off will be returning to Channel 4 soon
