No. I’m going to sit a season out
Rumours have been circulating that he was to leave the FX show after eight seasons after he announced he was taking a break from acting.
Now, he has confirmed in an interview with US chat show Extra at WonderCon he is to not return for the new season of American Horror Story.
Asked if he was to return, he replied: “No. I’m going to sit a season out.”
Fans have been sent into meltdown at the confirmation of the news they had feared for weeks.
One Twitter user said: “Evan Peters not returning for the next season? American Horror Story is cancelled.”
Another added: “Evan Peters is apparently “sitting out” the next season of American Horror Story, which means I will be sitting out from watching.”
It is confirmation of the news fans feared when he said he was taking a break from acting and told GQ: “I’m going to take a break, regroup, decompress, get back in touch with what I feel like I want to do.
“Not that I didn’t want to do any of those roles – they’re exactly what I wanted to do. It was just zero to 100 instantaneously. I want to play music.”
“I’m goofy, I’m silly, I like to have fun. I don’t like to yell and scream. I actually hate it. I think it’s disgusting and really awful, and it’s been a challenge for me. Horror Story sort of demanded that of me.
“It’s been all a massive stretch for me and really difficult to do. It’s hurting my soul and Evan as a person.”
It is hard to imagine the show without the stalwart who has brought to life some of the show’s most-loved characters.
His absence means that Sarah Paulson is now the only cast member to have been in every season of the hit show. Although she has yet to confirm her return in the new season.
Evan has also undertaken other roles including in American Horror Story producer Ryan Murphy’s queer drama Pose.
Emma Roberts is the only recurring cast member to be confirmed for the season, alongside new addition Gus Kenworthy, the Winter Olympic medalist.
Producers are being typically quiet regarding the theme of the season and fans may only find out not long before the release date, as has happened in previous seasons.
One fan theory is that the new season will be based on the theme of lust after they worked out that each season so far has represented every other sin in the nine circles of hell.
Filming for American Horror Story season nine is expected to begin in May or June this year and will likely be released in September.
The previous three seasons of the FX show have begun in September, so season nine is expected to follow suit.
Two of those three seasons have begun in mid-September.
As such, we can most likely expect American Horror Story season nine to begin on Wednesday, September 11 or Wednesday, September 18 2019.
Seasons one to seven are available on Netflix with American Horror Story season 9 coming soon to FX.
