'90 Day Fiancé: Self-Quarantine' Spin-off Brings Back 40 Past Couples

Coronavirus (COVID-19) has put a stop to pretty much everything in the entertainment world. There are no sports being played right now, most shows have halted production, and certainly, no award shows will be filmed until this is all over. But there is one show that not even coronavirus can stop and that’s 90 Day Fiancé. A new spinoff of the show, 90 Day Fiancé: Self-Quarantined will show a new take on international love.

What is the premise of 90 Day Fiancé?

The premise of 90 Day Fiancé was already pretty wild before coronavirus. Basically, the show follows an American as they meet their lover, who is from another country, and try to make the relationship work so that they can get married in 90 days. The storylines vary from couple to couple. Some have met briefly before making the move to live in the same country, the casts of Before the 90 Days are typically trying to see if they want to get married at all and on The Other Way, the Americans move to different countries. But no matter which spinoff the franchise creates, the stories that are portrayed are always insane, endearing, and hard to turn away from, all at the same time.

How will the new show be filmed?

All of the 90 Day Fiancé shows normally film with an entire production crew. Because of the social distancing rules, that can’t be done with this new show. So now, the cast will film themselves.

According to Variety, they will be taped for confessional interviews by Sharp Entertainment.

“Our crew is not near them physically at all,” Howard Lee, the president and general manager of TLC, said. “They will be helping them remotely.”

The cast members already began filming themselves and each other a few days ago.

“And they have no problem with this, the couples,” Lee continued. “They’re seizing this opportunity. I think that they’re actually really enjoying it, being able to show a part of their lives at home.”

Because of this new format, the series won’t look like what we are used to.

“This series will look very hot-off-the-press — it will look like the paint has not dried,” Lee said. “I think our audience is incredibly forgiving right now, and I’m hoping that they accept the way it looks. It will be messy!”

Who is returning for the show?

This show provides an opportunity for fans to catch up with some of their past favorites. Some of the couples live together and some are still romantically together but not living in the same place. So, the new spinoff will provide a look at how all of these different situations are working out.

Lee and his team went back through past seasons to find fan-favorites to catch up with.

“Who are we wanting to hear the latest news and updates from — who comes to top of mind for our audience?” he said, recalling how they chose.

Of course, the show will feature 90 Day darling Darcey Silva, who has already been on a number of seasons. Controversial couple Emily and Sasha Lorena will also be featured, as well as Chantel Everett and Pedro Jimeno, who are now the focus of their own spinoff, The Family Chantel.

The show is set to go through May.
