Perhaps this is a sign of needed reinforcements as the injuries pile up.
The Yankees landed relief pitcher Addison Russ from the Phillies for David Hale on Friday, ESPN reported.
The 25-year-old right-hander has a lifetime 2.45 ERA and 200 strikeouts across 152 2/3 career minor league innings. He will report to the Yankees’ alternate site. Hale, also a relief pitcher, has been with the Yankees since 2018 and had appeared in five games this season. The Yankees designated Hale, 32, for assignment earlier this week.
Russ was selected in the 19th round of the 2017 MLB Draft and could be helpful with Zack Britton going on the Injured List with a strained left hamstring and Tommy Kahnle already out for the season following Tommy John surgery.
