MISHRIFF silenced the doubters with a breathtaking Juddmonte International win.
David Egan and the four-year-old had racked up valuable victories abroad but were yet to score a Group 1 on home turf.
But to the relief of John and Thady Gosden and those lucky enough to be on the Knavesmire, the four-year-old finally came good on these shores – and in some style.
Confidently ridden in midfield, Egan and Mishriff travelled sweetly into the straight.
Market rival Love laid down an early challenge but quickly faded as Mishriff burst clear at ease.
It takes Mishriff's earnings to a cool £11 million. Not a bad gig if you can get it!
Alenquer plugged on for second with 11-4 shot Love well-beat in third.
Egan, 22, said: "It's like I've won the lottery!
"Obviously it's a lot of money, but I don't care about that. It's about lifting my career to the next level and this horse is taking me there.
"The Saudi Cup is a lot of prize money but it's still a conditions race, it's not a Group 1.

"We got that in the Sheema Classic, that was a great night but it's really special to do it on home soil.
"To canter down and see all the fans at York, it's what I've dreamed of all my life.
"I'm just a lucky man who can steer this horse around. He cruised into the race.
"I got goosebumps at the three pole. He's a freak to do it on dirt, on turf, I can't remember a horse who could do that."
Gosden Snr said: "He's a fabulous horse.
"He's trained well and he's done nothing wrong. I had him a bit short and needing it and fresh and full of it in the Eclipse.
"He's come to his very best. He's done nothing but improve these last three races, so I think we've seen the finished article.

"This is the race we've talked about since last December – this is the race we've always wanted to win with him to make him a stallion, for Europe rather than elsewhere.
"I would be inclined to look towards either the Arc or Champions Day next. I wouldn't be ruling out the Breeders' Cup mile and a half either."
