Paul Pogba left on bench for Manchester United's crunch clash with Liverpool

The 25-year-old has failed to start United's last two Premier League games and then had a match to forget in the Champions League defeat against Valencia.

Jose Mourinho has opted to make 10 changes from the side that lost in midweek, with only struggling striker Lukaku managing to keep his place.

The French World Cup winner was a topic of hot debate in the Sky Sports studio ahead of the game, with Roy Keane slamming him for looking "disinterested".

The former Red Devils captain said: "Whatever is going on in his head he is letting the manager down. If the guy's not pulling his weight he has to be left out.

"People say Mourinho does not do enough to bring players on side but he has given him the captaincy, a nice touch, but Pogba has thrown it back in his face."

Keane also claimed that current boss Jose Mourinho "doesn't trust a lot of his players", including his £89million midfielder.

Pogba and Mourinho's relationship has been strained all season with suggestions the player's attitude grates on the Special One.

As well as being dropped for the games with Arsenal and Fulham, Pogba failed to start the last-gasp 1-0 win over Young Boys last month.

While Pogba came off the bench in that game – as well as for 15 minutes against Arsenal – he was left out altogether for Fulham.

Jurgen Klopp has also made a huge call himself, by dropping Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson in favour of  £95million duo Fabinho and Naby Keita.

With Milner sidelined by a minor muscle injury, Nathaniel Clyne also makes his first start of the season by replacing the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.

Today's huge clash against is a match neither side can afford to lose as Liverpool look to return to the summit after Manchester City's 3-1 win yesterday.

United also need to close the gap on the top four, as they could end up 19 points behind the Reds, and also trail Chelsea and Arsenal by 11 points should results go against them.
