Maurizio Sarri won't allow 'potentially great' Ruben Loftus-Cheek to leave Chelsea in January after recent surge

Blues' 22-year-old sensation has been on the cusp of first-team football at Stamford Bridge for the past three years.

And after a successful loan spell with Crystal Palace last term Loftus-Cheek had expected to feature more for Maurizio Sarri this season.

But after a slow start the midfielder has featured in every game in December, and the Chelsea boss sees his future in west London.

Sarri said: "Ruben is a very good player and, potentially, he’s a great player.

“He has played seven matches out of seven in the last month, so I’m really very happy with him. He’s improving a lot from the tactical point of view.

"In future, he will be a midfielder but sometimes we need to use him as a winger, especially in the last part of matches with his physical impact. So he’s a very important player for us.

"In the future, he will be more than important.”

Chelsea have high hopes for 18-year-old Callum Hudson-Odoi who has shown his potential in the Europa League this season.

But Loftus-Cheek is expected to be the first academy product at Chelsea to establish himself in the first team since former captain John Terry.

The England man could feature in his eighth straight game today against Leicester at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri and Chelsea are hoping to beat under-pressure Claude Puel to maintain their place in the Premier League top four.
