Mardle and Smith set to buy greyhound named after iconic commentary line

Michael Smith and Wayne Mardle are set to buy a greyhound named after the latter's iconic commentary line. Smith secured his maiden world title this week, after defeating Michael van Gerwen 7-4 in Tuesday's final at Alexandra Palace.

The final produced one of the greatest legs in darts history, after champion Smith landed a nine-dart finish, just moments after the Dutchman was just one dart away from completing the same feat. The man commentating on the moment was Mardle.

As a result, the Sky Sports pundit and former player has been lauded for his work on the microphone for making Smith's nine-darter extra special.

After the checkout was completed, the excited Mardle was heard shouting: "I can't spake! I can't spake!" as the roof was taken off the Alexandra Palace. the commentator celebrated so much, that just a few sets later he was required to take a break from his duties.

One man who was quick to praise Mardle's work was champion Smith, who tweeted Mardle: "Probs boring everyone but I’ve watched that 9 about a million times. It wouldn’t have even been that good if @Wayne501Mardle wasn’t commenting it. What a credit he is to the team."

The commentator was quick to respond, replying: "What’s it like waking up as the World Champion and world No 1? Tell me!!!!! You did it pal! You did it!" After sharing the remarkable moment, the pair are now teaming up in a new sport.

As a result, Mardle revealed on Twitter on Thursday that he is teaming up with Smith to introduce a greyhound named after his legendary line. He said: "Love Greyhound racing! Well, The World Champion @Michael180Smith and I will soon have a dog racing called “ I CANT SPAKE “. Watch out for pupdates."

Following Smith's victory, Mardle was not the only person to lose their voice. As a result the world champion's Mum Sandra revealed she also suffered similar after cheering on her son from the bar where she works in their hometown of St Helens.

Speaking to Mirror Sport, she said: "My voice has gone from all the screaming last night… My stomach was turning but he played really well, he was excellent. I like working when he is playing because it takes my mind of it."
